A Guide to Diamonds: Understanding True Quality

A diamond's beauty is immediate — but its quality is something deeper.
Behind every stone is a balance of precision, rarity, and careful selection. At Halo & Crown, we believe you shouldn't need to study diamonds to wear one with confidence.
That's our role
The Four Cs: What Really Matters
You may have heard of the "Four Cs": Cut, Colour, Clarity, and Carat. These are the universal standards used to ro assess a diamond's quality.
Cut: The Source of Brilliance
Cut is what determines how a diamond interacts with light.
A well-cut diamond reflects light internally, creating brilliance, fire and sparkle.
At Halo & Crown, we prioritise cut above all else, ensuring every diamond performs beautifully in real-world lighting.
Carat: Presence, Not Just Size
Carat refers to weight — but the visual impact of a diamond depends on proportion and cut.
A well-balanced diamond will appear larger, brighter, and more refined.
Clarity: What You Don't See Matters
Clarity refers to the natural characteristics formed within a diamond.
While most are microscopic, they influence both rarity and value.
We categorise our diamonds with a simple principle:
VS ( Very Slightly Included) — Minor inclusions, dificult to detect
VVS ( Very Very Slightly Included) — Extremely rare, nearly flawless
Every diamond we use is eye-clean, meaning no visible imperfections to the naked eye.
Because ultimately, what matters is what you see—not what requires magnification.
Colour: The Purity of Appearance
Diamonds are graded based on how colourless they appear.
Colourless (D - F) — Exceptionally rare. Bright, icy, and highly sought after.
Near Colourless (G - I) — Appearing white to the naked eye, offering excellent value without compromising beauty.
Faint Tint (J and below) — A subtle warmth ma be visible, particularly in certain lighting.
Halo & Crown focuses on colourless and near-colourless diamonds— ensuring a clean, crisp, appearance in every piece.
Flourescence: A Subtle Characteristic
Florescence refers to how a diamond reacts under ultraviolet (UV).
Some natural diamonds emit a soft glow— most commonly blue.
In most cases, flourescence has no visible effect in normal lighting.
Halo & Crown may include diamonds with faint to medium flourescence where appropriate — allowing us to offer exceptional beauty while maintaining value.
Lab-grown diamonds typically do not exhibit flourescence in the same way, as they are created under controlled conditions.
